History:
Welcome! Thank you for visiting the Mills Loft website.
My name is Al Mills, I am fifty-five years young and have had racing
pigeons all of my life. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio and I now reside in
Parma, a Cleveland suburb. My dad Ted Mills and Uncle Joe Mills raced
birds for over fifty years. They are now deceased however I continue to
carry on the family name. Collectively the Mills Family has won races from
100 to 500 miles.
In 1971, after four years in the Air Force, I started to fly independently
with the old family of birds, Sion, Stassart and Wegges. Doing okay, I
decided to obtain more consistent birds. I purchased birds from a friend I
knew while growing up; his name is Victor C. Miller. Flying these birds,
SION-BEKAERT-DEVRIENDTS, winning top positions became regular. For
approximately twenty years I raced this family of pigeons.
Starting in 1995 I purchased birds from his Snow Bird winning bloodlines,
MR. PERFECT & ALMOST PERFECT, sons of the SOEST & WONDER VAN BERGEN hen.
These two brothers mated with JOSEY’S PRIDE & JOSEY’S DOLL run through the
veins of all my birds. These four Foundation Pigeons are responsible for
over 200 race winners from 100 to 500 miles. Their greatest mark has been
the Snow Bird Race in California where Victor acquired the name, (Mr.
Snowbird). I have continued to purchase birds from Vic as he has added new
champion bloodlines as crosses for this superb family.
Flying old birds on the Widowhood System, I’ve won races 100 – 400 miles
and many Diplomas’. I have only raced young birds in the past ten years
due to the decline of old bird racing in this area. I have also won top
positions in Conventions and Major Futurities.
Our two lofts are cleaned twice daily. One loft is located in my garage
and is divided into a breeder section and a hen section. My second loft is
the flying loft which is 12 X 16. This loft is divided into three
sections, two for the young birds and a holding section.
All of the birds are vaccinated and treated for anything that
may occur.
I have two sons, Brian and Jeff. Brian has his own business, and Jeff is
in high school, he is active in sports and the band. In February of 2002 I
met my partner and fiancée, Julie Cassidy, little did I know that this
lady had birds of her own from time to time, white cockatiels that is. So
now you have some idea about the Mills Loft.
Yours in the sport, good luck!
Al Mills & Julie Cassidy
